From the President

Happy Golfing in 2010!

Mother Nature has been doing her best at the golf course, from the weather blowing down trees (a big thank you to our "tree fairies" for taking care of it!), to the beavers building track homes, which are putting our fairways under water. We have found someone to help us with that, a big thank you to Mike Ashton.

Tee boxes 1, 2, 3 and 4 (and maybe 5, if we can get to it) are at the top of our agenda this year for repairs. We will also be working on our cart path.

We have a couple of openings coming up on the board this spring, if this is something you'd like to do, please let me or another board member know before then our May annual eeting. You can also let Terree know if you see her around town, before the Pro Shop opens up.

Things are really tight this year for the golf course and anything you can do to give support is really appreciated. We all want the golf course to succeed!

Brian Smith
Wrangle Golf Club President

NEW COURSE RULES: This past season the board voted unanimously to prohibit dogs on the course during business hours. This was a very difficult decision to make but we have had dogs interfering with play and posted signs to keep your animals on a leash and to clean up after them, ignored. After business hours your dog must be on a leash. Bags are provided on the course to clean up after your pet. We also ask that you dispose of the bags of do-do properly, thanks.

Treasurer's Report
Treasurer Dick Angerman, reports with the season ending Sept 15, 2009 shows a decrease of 23% of income compared to 2008. Part of this decrease comes from not opening until April 20th due to snow conditions on the course. Also we had a drop in tournaments this year which accounted for 250 fewer tournament rounds played. In general, I think the down turn and flat economy plays a big part of our loss.

On the brighter side, our dedicated crew continues to work hard and lowered the budgeted expenses by almost 20%.
Membership Committee
First we would like to thank all members who continue to renew their membership each year. We have a number of members who don't even golf who support the Club along with those living outside of Wrangell.

Last year we purchased a computer golf program that has run smoothly for compiling and printing membership cards, passes, GHIN and cart rental information. This program also enables emails to be sent to those who have their address in their membership criteria. If you haven't done so, please provide us with your email contact information to be added to your profile.

2010 Memberships are now due.
A Word from the Pro Shop
Happy New Year to all my golfing fans! I hope 2010 will be a great year for you! I am counting on it for the golf course.

This past year has been challenging at best, but we were still able to keep moving forward.

Our grant has been filled and I am happy to announce that we have 5 new golf carts, two 40 ft. containers for their storage and 4 sets of new Wilson golf clubs to add to our rentals. All that is left to do is to finish up the paper work and we'll be ready for our next application. We want to finish up our project with the containers, by building a roof over the top and a pad on the bottom and securing the open ends. So that we can offer parking for private golf cart owners under shelter for a small monthly fee. The 2nd phase of this project will be included in our next grant application, I am hoping to also include pulleys and nets for our driving range.

Save This Date Our annual membership meeting is coming up on April 30th. We have some very important things to discuss with the membership and we want all of you to attend. Some changes need to made in our by-laws and we need your vote. To encourage people to attend we will be offering a Season Pass as a door prize. Everyone who attends will be given a ticket for the door prize and you must be present to win. The membership meeting is your chance to "air" any concerns or suggestions you may have. It is only once a year, surely you can make time for that. We hope to see you there. Our membership dinner and auction is on Sat. May1th and Tournament play May 1th and 2th.

This past year we have had to take some major budget cuts, to keep things going during these tough economic times. I foresee doing the same for this New Year until things loosen up. You can help by volunteering, either your time, money or talents. Any or all is greatly appreciated and most helpful in keeping the golf course going.

Mentors Program Last spring we started youth golf lessons. We want to continue working with our young golfer's with a mentoring program. We know the value of keeping the youth actively involved. If this is something of interest to you, please talk to Terree, to set up a time that works best for you. A couple hours of your time, at your convenience and a young interested person, is all it takes.

For those of you who live out of town and would like to help, a monetary donation is always greatly appreciated. And will go a long ways, to help us get to where we want to go. We are a nonprofit organization, your donations are deductible and anything over $100.00 we will be most happy to provide you with a receipt. No donation is too small either, we gladly accept them all. Collectively we can do a lot!

This year I made a Christmas tree for "Christmas Tree Lane" sponsored by the Hospice organization at the Nolan Center. The little tree was auctioned off for $25.00 and went to Beth Comstock for her son Amos ( a new and up coming golfer). The golf course will be getting a check for $12.50.

We sold $500.00 in 50/50 raffle tickets during the Festival of Lights (formally Midnight Madness) at the Elks Lodge Friday night December 4th. $250.00 went to the winner Kyle Lewis.

My New Year's wish is that 2010 will be your best year ever! I am grateful for each and every one of you. You are the reason, we have the best golf course ever! Cheers! Terree Pino, Manager

2009 Alaska Airlines
Grand Prize Winner

Grover Mathis, board member, committee chairperson and lucky winner of the Alaska Airlines (2009) golf tournament grand prize drawing.

Just a quick note to tell everyone what an awesome time my wife Dawn, daughter Halee and I had in Kauai, Hawaii in November. As the winner of the grand prize for the Alaska Airlines golf tournament, I've had time to think about how fortunate we are to have Alaska Airlines give a prize like that away.

My thanks to them, to all the people who play in tournaments, helping to keep our golf course open as a way to spend a day. A special thanks, to all the people who work hard, in keeping the golf tournaments going each year and the sponsors for these tournaments. We had the vacation of our lives, all because of golf. I still can't believe our luck in having my name drawn.

I am looking forward to this year, 2010, of golf and the chance to play and enjoy all the golfers we get a to play with and against. Good luck to everyone this yr.

Help @ Tournaments
We need people to help out with the running of our tournaments. We will be holding a class that will cover everything you need to know, from handicaps to tie breakers and everything in between. Leonard Angerman will be instructing the class. If you have interest and want to help out email or call Terree.

We all know that most days its hard to get all your tasks completed. But by helping out at the course you are able to get your exercise taken care of even if its just your face muscles laughing. We know we have our members support. We know that many hands make the job small.
Golf Pro Visit

Last year PGA Golf Pro, Eddie Jones, visited Wrangell on. Mr Jones is a lifetime PGA Member and John Jacobs' Golf schools instructor and graciously gave golf clinics at Muskeg Meadows and exhibitions both days.

A BIG THANK YOU!
This visit was made possible by Bill McKay of Alaska Airlines and Frank and Nancy Murkowski.
